Thinking of a career as a pharmacy technician? The College of Health Care Professions can help you take the next step toward a role as a certified pharmacy technician in a variety of settings in the health insurance and pharmaceutical industries, including highly visible retail and hospital pharmacies and lesser-known facilities such as long-term care, nuclear, chemotherapy, and specialty pharmacies.
Pharmacy technicians perform various tasks supporting licensed pharmacists through dispensing medications to patients, receiving and confirming prescription orders, assembling medicines, and informing and educating patients about their medications. A high level of organizational and client-service skills is required to successfully navigate the customer-driven front lines, as well as behind-the-scenes operations of pharmacies.
The online pharmacy technician certificate from CHCP is designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills to take the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam and be able to enter the workforce as an entry-level pharmacy technician. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics*, job openings for pharmacy technicians are projected to grow 6% through 2032 – a faster than average pace. Overall, employment in healthcare occupations is projected to grow 12.6% from 2021 to 2031*, much faster than the average for all occupations.
The online pharmacy technician certificate has three required in-person clinical skills classes that are offered on weekends, an externship component, and is currently offered ad our Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston-SW, McAllen, and South San Antonio campuses.
